ARE ROOTS LONG ENOUGH?
The roots of the plant should be long enough to reach the base plate of Orchitop. That is important as Colomi orchidmix has no significant capillarity und therefore water will only be available at the bottom of the Orchitop (approx. up to height of coaster).
CLEANING OF ORCHID ROOTS
Please remove mostly all organic parts from the roots of the orchid by rinsing under warm water.
GRAIN SIZE OF COLOMI ORCHIDMIX
For most Orchids grain size 4-8mm is best. Use Colomi 8-16mm for Vanda only.
PRICK IN PLANT
Prick in orchid (roots should touch base plate of Orchitop) and fill up with Colomi orchidmix. Try to fill up all spaces between roots. When repotting Orchids with stronger roots like Phalaenopsis or Vanda put one or two roots between the poles and lay in coaster. After repotting attach coaster and put orchid back to it´s Location (bright, but without direct sunlight).
WATERING FOR THE FIRST TIME
24 hours after repotting (next day) remove coaster, put orchid in Orchitop into bathtube and rinse with warm water. Then attach coaster again and carry your orchis back to it´s Location. Take care that the orchid doesn´t get “cold feet” – use underlayment of styropor or cork if needed.
WATERING AND WATERING INTERVALLS
Two days after repotting fill up the coaster completely with water. Use soft water if available.
During the first two months spray your orchid with soft and warm water in the morning.
When coaster is empty and dry wait 2-3 days and refill coaster again completely. Exception: plant needs rest period with reduced moisture.
