COLOMI COLOURED ORCHIDMIX

COLOMI COLOURED ORCHIDMIX

ORCHITOP + COLOMI ORCHIDMIX – AND THE WORLD GETS COLORFUL

If you don´t like orchid mixes based on bark (e.g. because of allergies) or (semi-)hydroponics then we can offer you an interesting alternative: Colomi orchidmix.

It is a mineral mix based on Zeolith – in combination with our Orchitop you get a cultivation system with the special decorative look. We recommend Orchitop in transparent as you can see the wonderful Colors of Colomi at it´s best.
We tested Colomi and it worked pretty well. It is patented as our Orchitop and you will find detailed Information about Colomi orchidmix at the manufacturers website www.colomi.de.

At the colomi webshop you will get Colomi orchidmix and transparent Orchitop in all sizes as well – so you can save shipping costs.

CLEANING OF ORCHID ROOTS2021-12-28T10:40:18+01:00

Please remove mostly all organic parts from the roots of the orchid by rinsing under warm water.

ARE ROOTS LONG ENOUGH?2021-12-28T10:41:42+01:00
The roots of the plant should be long enough to reach the base plate of Orchitop. That is important as Colomi orchidmix has no significant capillarity und therefore water will only be available at the bottom of the Orchitop (approx. up to height of coaster).
GRAIN SIZE OF COLOMI ORCHIDMIX2021-12-28T10:42:19+01:00
For most Orchids grain size 4-8mm is best. Use Colomi 8-16mm for Vanda only.
PRICK IN PLANT2021-12-28T10:43:00+01:00
Prick in orchid (roots should touch base plate of Orchitop) and fill up with Colomi orchidmix. Try to fill up all spaces between roots. When repotting Orchids with stronger roots like Phalaenopsis or Vanda put one or two roots between the poles and lay in coaster. After repotting attach coaster and put orchid back to it´s Location (bright, but without direct sunlight).
WATERING FOR THE FIRST TIME2021-12-28T10:43:23+01:00
24 hours after repotting (next day) remove coaster, put orchid in Orchitop into bathtube and rinse with warm water. Then attach coaster again and carry your orchis back to it´s Location. Take care that the orchid doesn´t get “cold feet” – use underlayment of styropor or cork if needed.
WATERING AND WATERING INTERVALLS2021-12-28T11:31:04+01:00

Five days after repotting, pour slowly and over a large area onto the substrate surface until the water / fertilizer solution runs into the saucer and the bottom of the saucer is completely covered with water.

During the first 2 months, spray the plant in the morning with soft, room-warm water and also spray the roots at the base of the trunk or the visible roots.

To prevent salinisation and to increase the lifespan of Colomi orchid granules, soft water (rainwater, distilled water / osmosis water with a dash of tap water) should be used.

It is repeatedly poured slowly and over a large area onto the substrate surface until the coaster is completely covered with water after it has become empty and completely dry. Due to Colomi’s water storage capacity, it is sufficient to water again 5 to 7 days (depending on the culture temperature) after the coaster has become completely empty and dry. A determination of the optimal watering time by e.g. the lifting method as with substrates based on bark is not necessary with Colomi orchid granules.

Exception: the plant needs a rest period with reduced watering. Here you have to adjust the pouring intervals accordingly.
